Nowadays, it seems that cosmetic companies are bombarding us all with a variety of mascara advertisements promising, quite frankly, surreal lashes. But in reality, who doesn’t want Megan Fox dramatic and full lashes? Before you run out to buy the newest magic tool on the market, let’s review a few tips to make sure you get the most out of your product… regardless of how much you spend.
1 – Choose a mascara according to your needs : lengthening or volumizing. If you are looking to achieve both, you can always layer one of each.
2 – Curl your lashes first. For optimum results you can heat up your eyelash curler with your blow-dryer for 3 seconds.
3 – Start applying your mascara from the roots going up in a zig-zag motion to avoid clumps. For maximum volume, put a little pressure on the wand.
4 – Apply a second coat for a more dramatic effect. Do not let it dry in between coats. It will look clumpy.
5 – Do not (ever) apply more than three coats of mascara. If you want a super full effect, opt for false lashes instead.
TIPS FROM THE PRO
If your lashes are really thin try applying a little bit of loose powder before the first coat, this will thicken your lashes.
To separate clumps, use a spoolie or a clean mascara wand.
Only use waterproof mascara when necessary – the formula is drying for your lashes and it is hard to remove without rubbing.
Do not keep your mascara for longer than 3 months
