It’s that time of year where we get the winter blues; stuck inside, tired of the cold, ready for a break. Unfortunately, we are usually still recovering from holiday bills, or maybe even less hours at the office causing some budget constraints. The great thing about the amazing place we live is that there are fantastic local hotspots, mini vacations, and road trip destinations. Here are some fun places you can visit without breaking the bank.
The Obvious- Niagara Falls: Many people who grew up in Ontario forget about the draw of Niagara Falls. Fortunately, there is so much to do and see, even in the winter time, that it’s always worth the trip. Aside from visiting the falls themselves, you can take in all of the ‘tourist’ spots, visit the casinos, or even detour into wine country.
The Nation’s Capital- Ottawa: Visiting this great city is a lovely way to spend a weekend. There are amazing museums, the stellar ByWard Market, and tons of tasty food joints all around town. Between Winterlude in the cold months, Tulip Festival in May, and many other fantastic celebrations throughout the year. It’s also a great trip to learn more about the wonderful country we live in.
Chilly Outdoors- Winter Camping: There are many great provincial parks that offer yurts during the cold season. It’s a fun way to enjoy the great outdoors, and an inexpensive escape from the city. Besides the obvious needs (bundling up, packing food, etc.) there are lots of great things to do at our parks and a fun way to avoid the hustle and bustle for a short time.
Staycation- Hot Spots in The City: If you really just want to stay in the city but take a break from the daily grind, there are hundreds of fun things to do on a weekend in Toronto. We underestimate the power of visiting a museum, grabbing a bite at a new restaurant, or hitting up the Lightbox for a film. Toronto offers amazing hotel deals, great spas, and even outdoor pools (even in the dead of winter!) so make sure to assess your options; there is lots to do around here!
