In just a few short weeks, the GTA will play host to 41 countries, opening our cities and neighbourhoods to athletes from all walks of life. The Pan Am and Parapan Am Games consist of over 35 sporting events, spread out over 6 weeks and upwards of 25 venues all across Southern Ontario. The Pan American Games is considered the third largest international multi-sport games, and has been running since 1951. This will be the first time since 1930 that Ontario has played host to a multi-sport event, and Canada’s third time hosting the Pan Am & Parapan Am Games.
From July 10th, to August 15th, over 20,000 volunteers will lend their helping hands to ensure that the games run smoothly for everyone. Almost 7000 athletes, plus their trainers, friends and families will descend upon our great city to enjoy weeks of sport and competition. Not only are the tickets for the events affordable and accessible, the games committee has ensured that there are tons of free events in and around the city to celebrate the Pan Am games and their inclusion in our summer.
As the lead up to the Pan Am and Parapan Am Games begins, there will be some fantastic opportunities to get involved and get excited. Be sure to check out the Torch Relay and all of their stops in the GTA so you can be part of the historical event in Toronto. From archery to diving, cycling to softball, and everything in between, there are so many sights and sports to see over the next two months.
