Toronto is a wonderful city, filled with great businesses, amazing people and awesome food. We also have some lovely parks and green spaces, which many people tend to forget about in the hustle and bustle of big-city life. It’s very important to remember these places when you need a break from the daily grind but you don’t want to head out of your local stomping grounds. We are very lucky that the city is so protective of the open spaces, trees and plants, and ensures that they are well taken care of year-round. Here are some of our fave spots for a picnic in Toronto, for enjoying a break, sitting down with friends or family.
High Park: Considered a gem of the city, High Park is a local favourite for everything from jogging to picnicking, and everything in between. There are always some perfect spots to enjoy an afternoon, whether you like the shade or you’re looking to soak up some sun. It’s a wonderful spot to get together.
Sunnybrook Park: This park is a perfect place to gather friends and family for a day. There are hundreds of spots for picnics, some even equipped with grills, nestled in between lush willow trees and beautiful ravines. You’ll never want to leave this oasis.
Ashbridge’s Bay: This waterfront park is a perfect getaway, even if only for a few hours. The beautiful scenery pairs well with the cozy picnic tables and lovely walking trails that head through the park. A refreshing breeze and some lovely snacks would make for a great day.
Trinity Bellwoods: The energy of Queen West is the real draw for this lovely park, where hundreds of people gather on weekends for an afternoon of sun and fun. Sure, it can get crowded, but it’s a guarantee that you will enjoy people watching from your blanket in this fun park.
Bluffers’s Park: If you are looking for a real escape from the city, look no further than this amazing escape. You will think you’ve been transported to the coast of California rather than the big city of TO when you head to the beaches of Bluffer’s. The crazy and unique landscape will guarantee you a delightful afternoon.
Before you pick your park, head to a local farmer’s market and grab some homegrown snacks and treats. It’s sure to make for a perfect summer day picnic in Toronto!
